17-ALPHA-HYDROXYPROGESTERONE

Specimen Required
Draw blood in a SST tube. Centrifuge, separate serum from cells promptly and send 1.0 mL (0.5 mL minimum) refrigerated. Samples from children <1 year of age will be sent out for testing by Tandem Mass Spectrometry. See "17-Hydroxyprogesterone Quantitative, Child".

Alternate Specimen
Plasma: Heparin, EDTA
Serum: Red-top

Rejection Criteria
Moderate to gross hemolysis, gross lipemia, <1 yr old, high levels of bilirubin or biotin may interfere.
