ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE, BONE

Components
Liver alkaline phosphatase can affect the measurement of bone specific alkaline phophatase in this assay. Each 100 U/L of liver alkaline phosphtase contributes an additional 2.5 to 5.8 µg/L to the bone specific alkaline phosphatase result.

Specimen Required
Draw blood in a SST. Centrifuge, remove serum from cells and send 1.0 mL serum (0.5 mL minimum) frozen in a screw-capped plastic vial.

Alternate Specimen
Serum: Red-top
Plasma: Heparin

Rejection Criteria
Plasma (EDTA), moderate hemolysis, gross lipemia

Methodology
Chemiluminescence

Stability
Room Temperature: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 60 days
