Specimen Required
The patient should void, then drink a full glass of water and provide a urine sample within one hour. Adjust the pH immediately (with 1M NaOH) between 6-8. Beta-2-M is unstable in acid urine. Send 1.0 mL urine (0.5 mL minimum) refrigerated in an IATA-approved screw-capped plastic urine container. Sample will be rejected if pH is not between 6-8.
