BLASTOMYCES QUANTITATIVE EIA ANTIGEN

Specimen Required
Draw blood in a SST. Allow sample to clot 30 minutes, centrifuge, separate serum from cells, and send 2.0 mL serum (1.2 mL minimum) refrigerated in a screw-capped plastic vial. List all anti-fungal medications patient is receiving.
NOTE: Interfering substances and cross-reactivities include sodium hydroxide and sputolysin. Cross-reactivity occurs between blastomycosis and histoplasmosis and in paracoccidioidomycosis, penicillosis, coccidioidomycosis, aspergillosis and sporotrichosis.

Plasma: EDTA, heparin, sodium citrate
Urine, CSF, BAL, other body lfuids (2.0 mL)

Rejection Criteria
Tissue, sputum, bronchial brushings, stool, FNA, biopsy, tracheal or bone marrow aspirate. Specimens too viscous to pipette and specimens in transport media, fixative or isolator tubes.
