Specimen Required
Draw blood in a SST. Centrifuge and separate serum from cells within one hour. Send 1.0 mL serum (0.5 mL minimum) refrigerated in a screw-capped plastic vial.

Alternate Specimen
Serum: Red-top

Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens, plasma

Stability
Room Temperature: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 72 hours; Frozen: 14 days

Reference Range
7-9 a.m.: 4-22 µg/dL
3-5 p.m.: 3-17 µg/dL
9-24 hours post-dexamethasone: <5 µg/dL
