Specimen Required
Send skin, hair, nails, fluid, bronchial lavage or sputum in sterile leak proof contianer. Other sources may be sent in Amies gel or liquid transport system. Also acceptable: specimen submitted on rayon, dacron, calcium alginate or nylon swab in bacterial transport medium.

Alternate Specimen
Air dried smears other than stool sent in a slide holder transport sytem.

Rejection Criteria
Smears fixed with cytology fixative, excessively bloody sampes, DNA probe transport device, viral transport medium, stool.
