Specimen Required
Patient Preparation: Patient should refrain from taking allergy causing drugs, antihistamine, oral corticosteroids, and substances which block HZ receptors for at least 24 hours prior to specimen collection. Avoid direct sunlight.
Collect 24 hour urine, keep sample refrigerated during collection. Mix urine well and acidify urine with 10.0 mL 6NHCl. Mix well and send 4.0 mL acidified urine (2.0 mL minimum) refrigerated in a screw-capped plastic vial.
