LIPID-ASSOCIATED SIALIC ACID (LASA)

Specimen Required
Draw blood in a SST tube. Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Centrifuge, separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection and send 0.5 mL serum (0.2 mL minimum) frozen in a screw-capped plastic vial. CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate samples must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Rejection Criteria
Non-frozen specimens (Samples lose up to 25% LASA in 24 hours at room temperature)
