OSMOTIC FRAGILITY, RBC

Specimen Required
Draw blood in a lavender EDTA tube. Send 5.0 mL whole blood (2.0 mL minimum) refrigerated in the original tube. Do not transfer blood to other tubes. Include a control specimen drawn at the same time from a normal, unrelated non-smoking individual. Specimen must arrive at reference laboratory within 72 hours of draw. Label control tube clearly on outermost label "normal control". Collect sample Sunday-Thursday only.

Reference values have not been established for patients who are <12 months of age.
