Specimen Required
Draw blood in a plain red-top tube. Centrifuge in a refrigerated centrifuge if possible, remove serum from cells and send 2.0 mL serum (0.7 mL minimum) frozen in a pre-chilled screw-capped plastic vial. CRITICAL FROZEN. Ascorbic acid at very high concentration (exceeding 51 mcmol/mL) can interfere. It is recommended patients refrain from taking excessive amounts of vitamin C or vitamin C rich food for at least 48 hours prior to collection.

Alternate Specimen
Plasma: Sodium heparin

SST, PST, Gray top tube, refrigerated samples, room temperature samples.
