PORPHYRINS, FRACTIONATED, WHOLE BLOOD

Specimen Required
Patient Preparation; Patient should abstain from alcohol for 24 hours. Include a list of medications the patient is currently taking.
Draw blood in a green sodium or lithium heparin tube. Place on wet ice immediately and send entire heparinized whole blood sample refrigerated within 24 hours.

Alternate Specimen
Dark blue heparin

Rejection Criteria
Frozen whole blood, hemolysis
