Specimen Required
Draw blood in a green (sodium or lithium heparin). Immediately after blood sample has been obtained, add 1 mL whole blood to a chilled collection tube containing 2 mL 8% (W/V) perchloric acid. Mix well for 30 seconds and place in an ice bath for 10 minutes. Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 1500 g. Decant 2 mL supernatant (1.0 mL minimum) and send frozen in screw-capped plastic vial. Tubes available from laboratory.
