STRONGYLOIDES ANTIBODY, IGG, SERUM

Specimen Required
Draw blood in a SST. Centrifuge, separate serum from cells, and send 1.0 mL serum (0.3 mL minimum) refrigerated in a screw-capped plastic vial.

Alternate Specimen
Serum: Red-top

Rejection Criteria
Hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens, heat-inactivated specimens.

Semi-Quantitative Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay

Stability
Room temperature: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 14 days; Frozen: 1 year

Reference Range
0.9 IV or less: Negative – No significant level of strongyloides IgG antibody detected.
1.0 IV:   Equivocal -The Strongyloides IgG antibody result is borderline and therefore inconclusive. Recommend retesting the patient in 2-4 weeks if clinically indicated.  
1.1 IV or greater: Positive – IgG antibodies to Strongyloides detected, which may suggest current or past infection.
