Test Documentation
Specimen Required
Specimen source required. Collect endocervical, vaginal or male urethral swab and place in Aptima Combo II transport media. First void urine in Aptima urine transport tube. Liquid level must fall between the two black indicator lines. Dedicated specimens are required.

Alternate Specimen
First void urine in sterile IATA-approved screw-capped container. Endocervical specimen in PreservCyt (ThinPrep) Liquid Cytology Medium (5.0 mL minimum). Dedicated specimens are required.

Rejection Criteria
The following specimen will not be tested:
Specimens submitted with the white cleaning swab or with two swabs.
Aptima Transport tubes without swabs.
Swabs in gel, wooden swabs, dry swabs, Culturettes.
Viral transport medium, BD transports, Universal Transport media, or other transport systems not listed above.
Urine specimens where the liquid level in the urine transport tube does not fall between the two black indicator lines.
Urine specimens in sterile contianers that have exceeded the 24 hour stability.
SurePath, Qiagen/Digene cervical samplers, and other liquid cytology specimens not mentioned above.
Specimens collected in Universal Transport Medium (UTM).

Methodology
Transcription Mediated Amplification (TMA) nucleic acid amplification. The analytical sensitivity of this test is 0.1 organisms/mL in urine, PreservCyt liquid, and APTIMA swab transport media.

Stability
Swab in APTIMA transport tube or Urine in APTIMA urine transport tube:
Room Temperature: 30 days; Refrigerated; 30 days; Frozen (-20°C) 12 months
Urine in sterile contianer. Transfer urine to an IATA-approved screw-capped container.
Room temperature: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 24 hours; Frozen: Not recommended
Specimens in PreservCyt (ThinPrep) solution:
Room temperature: 30 days; Refrigerated: 30 days; Frozen (-20°C): Not recommended
