Patient Preparation
Patients should be encouraged to discontinue vitamins, supplements, and non-essential over-the-counter medications before urine collection. High concentrations of iodine may interfere with elemental testing. Abstinence from iodine-containing medications or contrast agents is recommended at least 1 month before sample collection.

24 hour urine
Specimen Preparation
Refrigerate urine during collection. Mix well and send 8.0 mL urine refrigerated in a blue-capped ARUP metal-free screw capped plastic vial. Record total volume on test requisition and specimen label.
