Updates to specimen preparation, alternate specimen, stability, methodology, reference range, and performed days.
Specimen Preparation: Send 10.0 mL of random urine in a Quest Beta-2 Microglobulin Transport Tube. Beta-2 Microglobulin in urine is unstable in acidic urine (less than pH 6). Exactly 10 mL of urine in the Quest Diagnostics Beta-2 Microglobulin Transport Tube is required to achieve the required pH of between 6 and 8. Any volume of urine above or below 10 mL will result in a pH that is outside the acceptable range.
Minimum Volume: 10.0 mL
Alternate Specimen: Collect random urine. Immediately adjust the pH between 6 -8 with 1N NaOH. Send 10.0 mL urine in a screw capped plastic urine container.
Stability: Room temperature: 5 days
Refrigerated: 15 days
Frozen: 30 days
Methodology: Immunoturbidometric
Reference Range: < or = 0.20 mg/L
Performed Days: Monday – Saturday
