Specimen Information

Patient Preparation

Two or more specimens from the same site sent in one vial will be processed as one specimen. Two or more biopsies from different sites require separate orders and separate specimen vials.

Specimen Preparation

Collect biopsy of uninvolved or involved skin. Immediately place specimen into a labeled vial of Michels or Zeus transport medium, seal and transport room temperature.
Two or more specimens from the same site sent in one vial will be processed as one specimen. Two or more biopsies from different sites require separate orders and separate specimen vials.
Please send pathology report with specimen.

Alternate Specimen

Collect biopsy of uninvolved or involved skin. Immediately place specimen into liquid nitrogen and allow to freeze thoroughly (do not allow specimen to dessicate). If liquid nitrogen is not available, specimen may be frozen by placing it on a small square of aluminum foil on a block of dry ice. Liquid nitrogen is preferred. Immediately wrap specimen in foil. Do not allow specimen to thaw. Place the wrapped specimen to thaw. Place the wrapped specimen in a labeled plastic vial, seal, and transport frozen.
